34th Transformation

Okay, this may be a stupid question but I just thought of it tonight and I'm seriously losing sleep over it.

At the library here, how do they figure out which books go in the fiction section and which go in the non-fiction section?

You're better off asking that Luke guy. He works in the library.

[ooc: Feel free to tell her he left. She doesn't know yet.]

Luke Skywalker? Ummm... he's gone.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Gone, he's not in the City anymore.

[identity profile] baixin.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
I had heard the books kept moving around by themselves. I wonder if that's true.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I haven't been to the library. I think you always find the opposite of what you're looking for?

[identity profile] baixin.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I've heard! Very strange.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, although I guess you can find stuff okay since people keep using it.

[identity profile] baixin.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
If you look for the opposite of what you really want, what happens?

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That's easy. The fiction section is for all the--

...Oh. Hm. That is a good question.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I might have to bring myself to actually go to the library and look.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You make it sound so horrible.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be, you never know.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you need me to come with you and protect you from all the perils of the library? The books only bite if you deserve it, you know.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I just might need that. Although if you come I really up the risk that we'll have to go free some troll or something to get any books I might want to check out.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't worry too much. The librarian-troll only works on Wednesdays.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright, then I guess it's safe to go take a look for ourselves.

Oh, hey. I kind of wanted to talk to you about something else, too.

[Private/Unhackable]

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, uhh... Dawn and I were talking about moving in together. Which would mean she'd move in here. But I wanted to see how you felt about that because this is sorta your place too and I like having you live here and wouldn't want you to be all weirded out.

[Private/Unhackable]

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Well, she seems nice, and there's certainly enough room. But, um...isn't it more a question of whether or not she's going to be bothered by me? Since I'd be the odd one out...

Re: [Private/Unhackable]

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a question of whether or not you'd both be bothered by each other. I told her I'd still want you to live here if you wanted. And she likes you and said she was cool with that.

I just... you're my best friend here and I don't want you to move out unless you really wanted to.

[Private/Unhackable]

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't want to leave. I like living with you and as long as I'm welcome, I'll want to stay. I just wouldn't want to be a nuisance, if you and Dawn would have been happier without me around and underfoot.

I don't know her very well, but like I said, she seems like a nice person. And I doubt you'd be involved with someone who wasn't, anyway. So really, I don't mind if she comes to live with us, since it'll give me a chance to get to know her better. Just...I don't want to be a bother. That's all.

Re: [Private/Unhackable]

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd definitely be happier with you around, Rosella. A lot happier.

You won't be a bother, I promise.

[identity profile] halfvulcan.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe most would still belong in fiction, though perhaps the "Historical Fiction" section instead.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
All that stuff that happened to those people is real to them though, isn't it?

[identity profile] halfvulcan.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed, and events written within works of Historical Fiction are also real. An author may speculate, however, upon the feelings, spirit, manners, and social conditions of the subject. Non-fiction allows only for the presentation of fact.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that makes sense, I guess. Do you spend a lot of times in the library?

[identity profile] halfvulcan.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Where I am from, information is all stored electronically as opposed to on paper, but I do often spend time reading.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
We have a lot of stuff in my world stored electronically too, but books are still mostly used for most things.

[identity profile] i-themagician.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They have sections now?

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't libraries have sections? Like fiction and non-fiction and things like that?

[identity profile] i-themagician.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think this one does. Not really, at least.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well how are you supposed to know where not to look for things?

[identity profile] i-themagician.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If the experiences of myself and others are any indication, anywhere you are likely not to look is probably the right place.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
So what happens if you're not looking for anything in particular?

[identity profile] i-themagician.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
You'll probably find something very specific.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have to give it a try.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the Library decides that for itself. And I think it considers almost everything to be fiction!

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
But... some of that stuff is real.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe not to everyone.

Obviously not to everyone!

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
But if you read a book that's fiction to you and then find out the people in the book are real, doesn't that mean it's not fiction anymore?

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe it just means that we're all fiction!

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I'm real.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Who's to say what is real?

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to say if I'm real.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
But what if to me, you're from a story?

Does that make you not real to me? Or me not real to you?

I don't always think I'm real anyway.
